Hola! This Sunday we are gonna review the book The Islanders. The authors of this book are Mary Alice Monroe with Angela May. This book is amazing! It is also on the 2022-2023 Name That Book List in TX. Here is a pic of the book!🕮📖👁️👄👁️.

Now shall we begin? This book is about... Jake's life has been turned upside down. His dad was wounded in Afghanistan, and his mom is going to help care for him. That means Jake is going to have to spend the summer at Dewees Island with his grandmother. Dewees Island is a nature sanctuary-no cars or paved roads, no stores or restaurants. To make matters worse, Jake's grandmother doesn't believe in the cable or the internet. Which means Jake has no cell phone, no video games... no friends. But then he meets two other kids- one is also visiting the island, and the other one lives there. Soon they become inseparable. But when they find what they think is an abandoned boat, their adventure lands them in hot water! Their punishment? Turtle duty. Daily beach patrols at dawn checking for loggerhead sea turtle tracks initially sounds boring, but then a nest is destroyed. The three friends determined to protect "their" nest. Can they save the loggerhead eggs from predators? And Jakes growing love for the island and its inhabitants help his father get well? My favorite character is Lovie.
